Wiki Loves Monuments has organised a number of events during the month of September. If you are interested in submitting photographs to Wiki Loves Monuments, then please join us.
2015 activities
15 August 2015: Cape Town CBD pre-event
- Date: Saturday, 15 August 2015
- Time: 10:00-12:00
- Location: Company Gardens, entrance to Iziko Musuems, Cape Town
- This event organised in partnership with ORMS Photographic Warehouse aims to build up interest and awareness of the competition amoungst the photographic community in Cape Town. ORMS has organised a professional photographer to led a workshop as part of the event to show people how to best photograph buildings.
5 September 2015: Bo-Kaap 1
- Date: Saturday, 5 September 2015
- Time: 10:00am - 12:00pm
- Location: Bo-Kaap Museum, 71 Wale Street, Cape Town
- A causal walk around the lower part of the Bo-Kaap area in Cape Town. This community has a very high number of heritage spaces but very few photographs of them on Wikipedia. This event aims to help change that.
12 September 2015: Tulbagh
- Date: Saturday, 12 September 2015
- Time: 10:30am - 12:30 am
- Location: Oude Kerk VolksMusuem, Church Street, Tulbagh, Western Cape.
- Wikimedia South Africa will be hosting a walking and photographic tour in Tulbagh as part of the Tulbagh Arts Festival. The event will end with a brief discussion and demonstration on how to enter the competition. Below are the details:
19 September 2015: Bo-Kaap 2 (with ORMS)
- Date: Saturday, 19 September 2015
- Time: 10:00am - 12:00 am
- Location: Bo-Kaap Museum, 71 Wale Street, Cape Town
- Please keep an eye out at the ORMS website to book for this event.
- The second event will be hosted in partnership with ORMS and participants will need to book at the ORMS site for it. ORMS has organised a professional photographer to join us and show participants how to photograph buildings. We will also have a guide to tell us about the history of the Bo-Kaap. It will be followed by an upload event so people who want to immediately upload photographs on the day can do so. The last event was very well attended so try to book in advance.
26 September 2015: Johannesburg Heritage Walk
- Date: Saturday, 26 September 2015
- Time: 10:00am - 12:00 am
- Location: Tbd
- Join us for a leisurely monument scavenger hunt, starting and ending in central Johannesburg. We will meetup where we started at 1:00pm, where we will be on hand to assist people upload and submit their photographs to the competition.

20 September 2014: V&A Waterfront Scavenger Hunt and Upload Marathon
- Date: Saturday, 20 September 2014
- Time: 10:00am - 2:00pm
- Location: Clock Tower Vida e Caffé, V&A Waterfront, Cape Town
- Join us for a leisurely monument scavenger hunt, starting and ending at the Clock Tower Vida e Caffé, at the V&A Waterfront, to photograph nearby monuments. We will meetup where we started at 1:00pm, where we will be on hand to assist people upload and submit their photographs to the competition.

24 September 2014: Wikitakes Simon's Town
- Date: Wednesday (Heritage Day), 24 September 2014
- Time: 10:00am - 3:00pm
- Location: Simon's Town Train Station, Cape Town
- On Heritage Day we will be meeting for a monument scavenger hunt in Simon's Town to photograph nearby monuments and Jubilee Square. You can find a list of monuments in the Simon's Town area at the link here. Participants are also welcome to join the Simon's Town Museum Heritage Day programme, which will consist of a procession from the Simon’s Town station, to the Forced Removals Monument at Jubilee Square, the laying of a wreath, speeches and a procession back to the Museum for lunch. We will meetup after lunch at the Simon's Town Museum for an upload marathon, to assist people to upload and submit their photographs to the competition.
27 September 2014: Wikitakes Franschhoek
- Date: Saturday, 27 September 2014
- Time: 10:00am - 2:00pm
- Location: Old Library, Franschhoek
- Join us for a leisurely monument scavenger hunt at the Old Library, Franschhoek to photograph nearby monuments. We will meetup where we started at 1:00pm, where we will be on hand to help people upload and submit their photographs to the competition.
